Picture Framing

For us at PR Elletson & Co, there is nothing quite like the feeling of finding the perfect harmony between artwork and frame. It’s what we have been doing for over 40 years and has helped us to become one of the most renowned picture framers in the UK.

Some examples of frame styles can be found below, but the options are practically limitless. The choice of frame depends on the artwork itself, where it will hang, as well as the client’s own desires.

We have over 1,000 handmade samples in our workshop so why not book an appointment and let our friendly and helpful team show you how we could transform your artwork.

Old Masters

From the dark wood of the Dutch Old Masters to the Cassetta and Caneletto frames of Reneissance Italy, the Old Masters frames are some of the most recognisable around. We have provided these frames for some of the top galleries and auction houses in the country, as well as for some of the finest private collections. We also love to be creative, and we have seen many modern and abstract pieces leave the workshop in a traditional Tuscan Cassetta or even the gilded majesty of a Louis XIV frame.

18th and 19th Century European

The 18th Century had a particular attachment to elaborately carved and gilded frames, heavily influencing what we might perceive as a ‘typical’ frame to this day. The 19th Century then saw a revolution in European art with the emergence of the Impressionists and Pre-Raphaelites, and this translated into huge innovation in frame making and styles, often leading to tensions as new and old collided - a creative tension that we continue to exploit. This is also the period that saw Watts frame became the archetypal frame in Victorian England, and we still see many paintings leave our workshop in this style of frame.

Contemporary

Being less constrained by historical context allows us to be more creative when it comes to framing modern styles of painting. From elegant and minimal slivered leaf box frames, to unique painted frames that draw inspiration from the colours of the artwork itself, we can always find the perfect frame to enhance any picture.

Basic Range

We feel all pictures deserve a worthy frame, that is why we offer a basic range of frames. The same selection process and superior craftsmanship but without the bells and whistles. So whether you have a smaller work, a print or even a photograph, we can help create a quality frame within budget.
